Hi! Most of you know me as the Geeky Vixen, but for this week’s League of Extraordinary Bloggers post, we were asked to introduce ourselves.
I am the delinquent member of the LoEB, since I almost always forget to post anything, and when I do, it’s at the last minute.
My origin story: My mom taught me to read using comics as incentive, which cultivated a love of reading and comics that I’ve carried with me since then. I grew up loving Wonder Woman, Princess Leia, She-Ra and He-Man, and Pee-Wee’s Playhouse (among other things), and though I took a brief hiatus in my teen years from being a geek out in the open, I’ve never given up on my geeky pursuits. In 2002, I met my now husband Brad, and he encouraged me to take the mantle of Geeky Vixen. He started my love of collecting toys, and I got him started collecting comics.
Speaking of, I’m married to my best friend in the entire world. We spend every waking moment together (except for when I’m at work), and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I have no kids, but I do have a pit bull that is my furry BFF.
My husband Brad is the mastermind behind Battle Babies, a kit-bashed art toy line that happened totally by accident, but is one of the best things that’s ever happened to us because of the awesome people we’ve met.
By day, I work for one of the world’s largest banks as a Knowledge Management Content Quality Specialist. I’m in charge of development and training for a staff of about 30 technical writers, as well as the development and maintenance of help content related to technical writing and documentation standards. Right now, I’m working on a huge project that will impact help content for the entire company.
I’m a gigantic grammar/linguistics nerd.
I’m an only child. My parents are amazing people and continue to be my heroes every day.
If you’ve read my recent posts, you know I recently took up running. As a fat kid, this is a big deal. I’m completely addicted to it.
I am also addicted to social media. I love interacting with my Twitter friends. Someday I’m going to meet you guys in person!
I take goofy pictures of my toys. I recently took a series of photos involving a Star Wars Black 6″ Stormtrooper and a miniature wine bottle.
I love that the internet has brought people closer together. Without it, we would not have met people who have become our best friends.
I love all kinds of music. Every once in a while, a new song will catch my fancy, but I mostly stick with the 6600 songs I already have on my iPod.
I am currently obsessed with Masters of the Universe and Princess of Power. I’ve always sorta been, but MOTU Classics have made it worse.
My interior design guru is Pee-Wee Herman. As a kid, I always said I wanted a house like his. Now, I kinda have it–there are toys everywhere, comic racks, art, and lots of color. I adore it.
I wish I had the means and time to travel more. There are so many places I haven’t been I’m afraid I’m going to miss before I die. I’ve also never been on a plane.
I love going to the flea market.
I love to write, but I rarely take the time to do it.
I love movies. Between the movies that my husband has seen, and the ones I’ve seen, I’m pretty sure there are very few films we haven’t seen.
I can quote most of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. I watch it every time it’s on TV.
I know most of the lyrics to Young MC’s “Know How”. It is my dream to do it in karaoke.
Dolly Parton is my spirit animal. I wanted to be like her when I was a kid, and I went to Dollywood every summer until I graduated from high school. When I first learned to read, I went to Dollywood with my parents, my aunt and uncle, my grandparents, and my grandparents’ preacher and his family. I was reading movie posters and sounded out “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”. My grandmother was horrified, and my parents and aunt and uncle couldn’t stop laughing. Dolly Parton said, “Find out who you are, and do it on purpose.” I try to live that every day.
I love Dorothy Parker.
I’m obsessed with Tarantino films, especially Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction. I loved Death Proof.
We lived near Nashville when I was a kid. We took my dad to the airport one time, and we saw Ronnie Milsap. He didn’t see us. (Yes, it’s a joke, but it’s actually true!)
I can act out pretty much the entire Munchkinland sequence from The Wizard of Oz on my own. My uncle and I used to do it every Thanksgiving when the conversation lulled.
I talk about my uncle a lot. He cultivated a lot of my taste in films, British TV, music, and my love of Pee-Wee Herman. He passed away in 2000, and I miss him every day. He would’ve loved the world we live in now.
I love all things monster/Halloween, especially skulls and Frankenstein. I have anobsession with glittery skulls. I’d love to be in Mexico during Dia de Los Muertos.
I’m teaching myself Spanish. I took French in high school/college, and it’s practically useless.
I shot JR.
